Grouping involves formations which is the general order of your group (who is in
the front ranks taking hits vs who is hanging out in the back for safety).
There are two types of FORMATION STYLES: TANKS and 3x3
In a TANK style formation, there is simply a prioritized order of tanks:
alpha, secondary, tertiary, quaternary, quinary, senary, septenary, octanary, nonary
The alpha tank in a group will have the highest chance of getting hit. This is
modified by a variety of factors including the alpha tanks size, dexterity, and
affects like haste, slow, curse, bashed, etc.
In a 3x3 FORMATION STYLE, there are three rows, FRONT, MIDDLE, and BACK and three
columns, LEFT, CENTER, and RIGHT. Abbreviated as fc (FRONT CENTER), bl (BACK LEFT), etc.
Attackers will default to attacking people in the front row of your formation with
a stronger bias toward the center.
Many physical skills (i.e. kick, bash, deathstroke, etc) require you to be in the front
row of a formation to use. Other skills (i.e. berserk, charge, impale, etc.) will work
from either the front or middle rows. Still others (i.e. glare, turn undead, ranged
spells and skills) will work from the back rows of the formation.
One exception to the above rule is BACKSTAB. This skill can be done from any position
in the formation but upon failure you will be placed in one of the front formation
positions, vulnerable to attack.
The RESCUE skill will let you swap formation positions during combat.
To reform your group, use REFORM (not usable during combat).
Use FORMSTAT for more info about your formation.
