Shockingly, this spell surrounds you with charged bolts of energy that
will sting anyone attacking from melee range.  It also provides some
lightning resistance but makes you more vulnerable to water damage. 
(Remember that sage advice to not use wands of lighting bolts while
taking a bath?  Same kinda deal here.)

You can only have one magic shield on at a time between grim ward,
iceshield, fireshield, acidshield, and blade barrier.
