The Wilderness

A vast wild continent, reachable only by ship, where the map is drawn as you walk it. Out there are random encounters scaled to you or your group, end-game puzzles, races to unlock, unique gear, and levels beyond 100 — and it is hardcore, so the farther you stray from Gummton Outpost, the more the wilderness gets to keep what it kills. A ranger will retrieve your corpse. For a modest fee.

Gummton Outpost

The one safe harbour: traders, a church with a recall waypoint, and passage back to Midgaard.

Survival craft

Your view shrinks with night and weather. SURVEY trades stamina for sight; ORIENTEERING keeps you found.

Getting there

From the Temple of Midgaard: 3s 2e 1s, then book passage to Gummton Outpost.

From the in-game help

Including the map legend, in the same colours the game draws it.

A vast wilderness exists as a separate continent accessible only by ship. You can
expect great peril in the wilderness but also rewards not found anywhere else - such
as random encounters with nasty creatures (around a similar level to you or your
group), unique "end game" puzzles to find and solve, new races to unlock, unique
gear, new skills, new levels beyond 100 and more.

Gummton Outpost is a small town where you'll arrive and book passage
back to Midgaard. It's the safest part of the wilderness and the farther you
venture from that little outpost, the more dangerous things will get. At the
Outpost, there's a material trader "Trader Jeigh's" as well as a wild animal
collector "Duke Damien" that you can sell to. The Wilderness is HARDCORE but
fortunately, there's a Ranger Lezalas that will retrieve your corpse (for a
modest fee). There's also a small Church providing a prayer room and recall
waypoint.

The wilderness is displayed as an ascii graphical display map that can be toggled.
The radius of view is determined by time of day and weather conditions. Use the
SURVEY command to get a larger display at the cost of stamina. The ORIENTEERING
skill can help find your way and for BLIND MODE players, there is a text description
of the ascii output in cardinal directions.
